Chasin Dreams Farm is located in the heart of the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve and serve children that are differently able throughout Montgomery County.
Our program is dedicated to the belief that the life of a child with disabilities can be immeasureably enriched by having a tiny pony to love and care for. The interaction and bonding that occurs between a tiny pony and a child with disabilities is nothing less than magic. Creating magic in children’s lives is Personal Ponies only mission.
Many children that visit our facility have their favorite pony they work with and take time to groom, feed, interact, lead and talk to their special friends. We consider our program a resource to ALL children in the County. For children that are unable to make the trip out to Upper Montgomery County we will bring our ponies to them. Our motto is “have pony, will travel”. Personal Ponies also serves the wider community by bringing our ponies to convalescent homes, day care centers, therapeutic riding centers, and treatment centers. Our ponies go anywhere kids will benefit from seeing and interacting with them. Another highlight of our program is the ability to place a pair of ponies in the home of children that are differently able. For those that have the land, time, and resources, we will provide them with a pair of ponies to care for free of charge, for long-term or lifetime use.
September 2010 marked six years since we began our Personal Ponies program. We began our program with just one UK Shetland pony. In the past two years, three foals have been born here and we now have a total of seven ponies at our farm. During this time, many children have come to visit. Each child has different needs and abilities. Some just need a friend, while others are interested in learning how to groom and care for the ponies. Each experience creates its own magic for the children.
In addition to hosting children at our farm, we have also had a chance to take our ponies on many outings. We have visited nursing homes, nursery schools, camps, cancer centers, special needs programs as well as joining the Circle of Hope Therapeutic Riding Center in welcoming groups from Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital.
